Pat wrote her first short story at age eight. She has never stopped writing, although her journey has taken several different turns. Writing was always her first love and after high school, she turned to journalism. She was fascinated by the who, what, where and why of journalism.
After graduating from the University of Alabama, she joined the news staff of the Atlanta Journal where she covered politics, crime and a little bit of everything, much of which have been seeds for many of the more than sixty books.
Her first book, a historical, won a Maggie Award and a Reviewer’s Choice Selection by Romantic Times as well as a rare five star review. She has since won numerous awards, including four Maggie Awards, Storyteller of the Year and Western Writer of the Year by Romantic Times as well as numerous Reviewer Choice awards and she had been a finalist in Romance Writers of America’s RITA awards seven times, and as well as numerous Reviewer Choice.
Reviewers have cited emotional intensity and “a special brand of magic” in their reviews.
She has been published by Bantam, Berkley, Harper Collins and Harlequin and several of her books have been alternate selections with Doubleday Book Club.
Pat loves all genres, and has written historicals in many different time periods, including Scottish, western, early American and even China. Her suspense offerings are mostly developed from today’s headlines.
She is currently finishing the seventh of her Covenant Falls series, the stories of veterans -- men and women -- returning from war and finding their place in a small big-hearted Colorado town, often with the assistance of dogs, cats and horses.
She is a past president of the Romance Writers of America, Georgia Romance Writers and River City Romance Writers (Memphis).
